I have found that, if I leave CDAUDIO for Windows running so it shows what
track is playing, I get serious delays when using other SCSI equipment on the
same SCSI adapter. For example,

There is a lot of I/O occuring when an AUDIO CD is playing. This I/O takes up
BUS time. You can expect bus delays. This is the way the SCSI specification
was designed. A different controller may help a bit, but will not solve the
problem entirely, I think.
