Bryan, I'm trying to use Corel SCSI! with: — a TEAC MT-2ST/45S2 60 Mb streaming cassette tape drive — a Maxtor LXT200s 200 Mb SCSI HDD — an Acculogic ISApport model 20 SCSI host adapter — CTBackup V1.22 and WTBackup V1.14 — Windows 3.1 / MSDOS 6.0 / 386MAX One of the first things I tried to do was a full (190 Meg) backup of my hard drive. I hoped to defragment and 'clean up' the drive. My tapes are lower capacity than my hard drive. All I get is an 'end of tape' error, and I then have to figure out which files were not backed up, to start the next tape. — My first question is, can Corel SCSI! do a 'full' backup onto lower capacity tapes, automatically prompting for the next tape if necessary? I did finally get everything onto tapes, then provided a floppy with what I thought I would need to boot and restore the files, and then I erased the hard drive! Oh boy. I could not get CTBackup to rebuild a Volume file, nor could I get it to do a 'blind' restore. When I tried to 'View Save Set' with CTBackup, the program would do various things, always ending in a 'lockup', with it necessary for me to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL or even power down. To save myself, I had to reinstall DOS 4.0; do the upgrade to 6.0; reinstall Windows; reinstalled Corel SCSI!; and I was finally able to use WTBackup to rebuild the necessary indexes to recover the files from the tapes! It took most of the day to figure it all out. –Before I try such a thing again, exactly what does CTBackup need to work? (In CONFIG.SYS?) What do I need to have set aside on an 'emergency boot floppy' to recover my hard drive in case of a crash? The Corel SCSI! book said nothing at all (that I could find) about Volume files or Catalog files…. Thanks for any help you can give me here. Chan Webb
