#Still No Mailing, Right?

Donna and Mike– I'm putting together a review of CorelDraw 4.0B3 with the new CDRGFX engine. I'd just like to confirm something, for the record: Despite the many implied promises to do so, there was *never* a general mailing to registered Corel users (or even to registered 4.0 users) about the availability of the B3 release, right? The only folks who know about it are the visitors to this forum, their acquaintances, and *just lately* readers of some third-party Corel publications. Of course, the September release of the new print engine complicates the matter further. I'm aware the the recent packet that went out regarding the Contest contained, in *some* cases–not all–an afterthought of a P.S. mentioning the maintenance release. My packet, for instance, did not contain that notice, even though I received my Corel4 for review directly from Corel. To summarize: 1) The maintenance release has been available since mid-August. 2) It is now mid-November. 3) There has still been no mailing to registered 4.0 users about item #1. Does that about cover it? Regards, –Dave Makulec

Hi David: Not being in the department that handles all mass mailings etc., as far as I know the only mention of the PATCH went out with Claire Souliere's ArtShow letter. I do not know WHICH letter, as I have read in the forum there was more than one. Based on the amount of orders our department is placing weekly, I would say that the majority of clients are aware of this PATCH. Perhaps, as with DRAW 3.0, it was mentioned in a few trade magazines? For definite confirmation of this, I would contact the media relations group. Thank you, Donna

Donna– Thanks for your reply. I must confess astonishment that upgrade notification wouldn't fall into the realm of "Customer Service" and would be considered "media relations" instead, but I've been baffled before, so that's not new. Who would I talk to in Media Relations, and how would I contact them? CompuServe contact would be ideal, but an extension in Ottawa would be a fallback position (it's *very* hard for me to make business calls during the day for the next couple weeks…). Hi David: Actually I had shown Arlen a copy of your message and he informed me that a database mailout was sent out within the last week regarding this update. In regards to "media relations" I was referring to finding out which magazine publications had mentioned the patch in their articles. Customer service is responsible for phone/mail orders. Generally a sales dept. as opposed to being involved in database mailings etc. Arlen sounds like the man to speak with regarding this mailing but I think he is attending COMDEX this week. You may want to E-Mail him early next week. I hope this helps you out! Donna 🙂

Donna– Thanks for the additional info. I'm sure a *lot* of your folks are off to COMDEX now, and it'll be a bit before I can deal with them directly. If someone has a copy of the database mailing regarding the Draw4 maintenance release, I'd very much like to get a printed copy via the postal mails ASAP, for the record. Can you arrange that? Regards, –Dave Makulec

David: Just for your information: I received the patch for 4.0 as a result of calling Corel Tech Support by phone with a problem. They told me they would send me the upgrade and that should solve my problems. John
