#Exporting Corel fountain

Is there a way to get drawings that contain fountain fills made in Corel Draw
3.0 to export and print properly from Quark 3.12 for Windows. This situation
is forcing me to do my layouts in Corel Draw and making it impossible to use
Quark. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have enough information to be sure what the problem could be. I am
using the same two apps with no problems that I can detect. I am saving the CD3
objects as EPS with any header resolution and importing the EPS into Quark. Do
you have a PostScript printer? Quark will not print certain types of pictures
to non-PS printers. What gets printed in that case is the TIFF header, not the
EPS vector illustration.
A work around would be to save the CD3 object as a very high resolution .TIF
(match your printer's resolution) file and import that into Quark. The result
is almost indistiguishable from a vector EPS picture, and the fountain fills
should print just fine to any printer since they are already 'rasterized".
Let me know more specifically what you are trying to do if this doesn't help.

(of course, high res tiffs get pretty big, but if the files don't have to be
transported to a remote printer this shouldn't be a problem)

You are absolutely right and I apologize for wasting your time. When I began
using CD3 and Quark my laser printer was not postscript compatible. Because the
EPS files weren't printing properly from Quark (I also had display driver
problems with Quark) I began to use CD3 exclusively, leaving Quark sitting
unused on the hard drive. Unfortunately I never sent any output from Quark to
an image setter for a test. Since that time a postscript emulator card has
been added to my laser printer and just as you said the EPS files print
properly in Quark.
Ken, may I ask you another question concerning fountain fills. I understand
that the fountain stripe setting cannot be set when exporting from CD3 to EPS
format. It can only be set in the Print Dialog when outputting directly from
CD3. Do you know how CD3 determines this setting when exporting to an EPS
file.

The fountain steps settings is fixed at 128 in CorelDRAW! 3.0.
You can, however, change it after the fact by modifying the EPS file (be very
careful about this).
> Make a backup copy of the EPS file
> Open the EPS file in a text editor
> Page down several times until you come to the lines…
1.00 setflat
/$fst 128 def
> change the 128 to whatever you like (255 is the maximum)
> save the EPS file
Make sure you do not save the EPS file with formatting (with Write for
example). Also make sure you don't add or remove any characters or spaces (only
change the 3 numbers '128')..
