#WHAT IS… book?
5 messages in this thread
Hello again,
I was wondering whether anyone has come across a good Graphics and Animation
"Dictionary"? I bought a book called Advanced Rendering and Animation
Techniques and, although it's good, it's still a little terse. Takes a lot of
reading to distill the idea.
I just want somewhere to go to find out about rendering and modeling techniques
not offered by 3DS. Stuff like Lambert, Blinn, Radiosity shading types; NURBS,
b-spline patches, Cross-sectional modelling, etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks James
Well, I think this book may be out of print, but, you may be
able to find it at your local library. It's called "3D COMPUTER
GRAPHICS – A USER'S GUIDE FOR ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS", by Andrew S.
Glassner, on Design Press, a division of TAB BOOKS. They have
an address listed as Design Press, Imprint of TAB BOOKS, 10 E.21 St.,
New York City, New York – 10010 Besides covering some of these
rendering techniques, it also covers all the various other aspects
involved in modeling, and animation. It does all this without needing
a degree in quantum mechanics :). It's a down to earth discussion of
all these things.
Another source of information is a magazine called 3D ARTIST,
which is a very good rag for this kind of stuff. It's dedicated
primarily to micro-based modeling, and animation programs and
techniques, primarily on the PC, but also covers MAC, and AMIGA
platforms, as well. I hope this is of help to you.
Speaking of LAMBERT shading (among others), I'll never
understand why ADESK never offered LAMBERT shading in 3DS, for it's
low-end quickie viewing, as oppsed to that USELESS wireframe
rendering, but, if you're getting, or have, version 3, MATROX has a
card that, once the driver for it is finished (if it isn't already),
will offer REAL-TIME LAMBERT shading in 3DS! It'll be done in
hardware, right in the card. Definitely cool!
Hey Phil,
I've tried to find 3D ARTIST arround here but can't. Do you have subscriber
info? A phone number?
Thanks for the info James
