hello heres my dael- (er deal that is) i have an amiga 4000/40 with a
VT I have a 2000 with a 105 hd i have a 1000 (to run visual aurals
on) I ahve a video projector, a hi8 camera and a sony evo9850 deck i
know i need 2 more decks and a controller at teh moment im
consediring t sony cvd 1000 and amilink- i like the people and
interface of the OIV better- but everything ive heard has sorta
scared me off (^PIV) What im trying to do is put togeather a system to
project psychadelic graphics at raves parties dances etc. What i cant
do is mix my own anims into the toaster- any ideas? how can i get
video output from the 2000- is there an rgb-video adaptor? (oh the
1000 was such a nicely designed machine- composite video out-
friendly connectors) can i add another genlock downstream of teh
toaster and put the 2000 into it ? does teh super gen take input
direct from teh rgb port of the 2000? please answer me here and/or by
email on sany ideas how i can add morew control ands versatility to
what im trying to do peace and thanks

From your description, it sounds as though you have the perfect scenario to use
keyed graphics from the A1000. Making sure the unit is properly genlocked
(Supergen connected to the A1000 and genlocked to the same source as the
Toaster) either Upstream (brought in as a video source to the Toaster), or
downstream (running the Toaster's program output into the Supergen's video
input).
If using the A1000/Supergen in the upstream configuration, you could do some
very exciting effects such as your own anim transitions with the keyhole effect
in Toaster 2.0. You could also use the Toaster's luminance keyer to super your
graphic overlays so long as they have all black or white backgrounds. The
difficulty here would be the restriction of any video source to the Supergen
other than a sync source or video image that was time case corrected and
genlocked to the same source as the Toaster.
In the downstream configuration, you could overlay your anims or dissolve up
the background colors using the Supergen's faders.
As far as getting the RGB output from a Toasterized Amiga out to another
encoding devce is concerned. Sorry, NO CAN DO. I have tried using a pro encoder
to do the job, and it won't fly. Evidently the Toaster does something to the
rgb signals when plugged into the internal video slot that prevents you from
tapping into them.

How about putting the Toaster in the 2000 and hooking a DCTV unit to
the 4000 for near real-time high-color NTSC anim playback through the
toaster switcher? Also a live camera for shooting the crowd with
Chroma FX and super imposing anims or FX.
There are devices for going RGB>NTSC out of the 2000 no problem but
you won't get high color images without a color board. DCTV you get
both. Going out live as apossed to tape is much less demanding. To
get good footage on tape you absolutely need pro decks. To trip out a
bunch of party goers you could use many DTV level devices :^)
