How do you create a fax using FW fonts, as GPFAX coverts ascii of IFF files to
a fax format.

Good question, however, I've been using Softsans to write all of the docs
I've faxed, and when I view the fax prior to sending it, GPFax shows the doc as
it was written complete with font. In fact, I sent myself a fax, because I
wasn't certain it was coming out readable (the whole reason for the initial
message), and the fax I received wasn't ascii, but in Softsan, and whatever
other fonts I used.
By the way, there is a new file in the LIBS (I think the AREXX lib) called
FWFAX95.LHA, and it is a macro which bridges FW to GPFax. I tried it out when
I sent myself the fax, it did a vey nice job.

I don't know HOW you're doing WHAT you're doing, but MY copy of GPFax is a
FACSIMILE program, and produces "WYSIWYG" fax output: the document I see on my
FW screen, with images and differing fonts, is what appears on the fax.

Well I borrowed my friends copy of GPfax, as I had to send a document to my
office for the first time, and I just used the conversion prog to send it and
hoped for the best. I just assumed that you had to convert eveything, and
because I've just bought FW and saw Louis post about using it with FW it got me
interested in it.
But the situation is arising more where I need to send fax's, unfortunatly my
friend recently sold his 500, otherwise I would have bought the prog off him.
So this leads me onto my next question, does anyone know where in the UK I can
get it from. I've looked in all the mags but have not seen it advertised. My
moden is a USR DS HST which I belive has only class one.
Don't use the 'conversion' feature… that will not work for WYSISWF output.
You need to enable the print capture from GPFax and then 'print' your document
from FinalWriter using the graphic/final print option. It should create a
great looking fax, graphics, fonts and all.

You're just the guy I've been wanting to talk to, thanks to your tag line.
Looking to get into an Emplant, and looking for a couple answers. I hear I
have to get the MAC Roms. Where does one get them? How are they installed?
Can the average user install 'em (when I say average I mean average!)? How
expensive are these Roms, and which ones would I need if I wanted to
emulate the Quadra and 486? I'm running a 25Mhz 030 board. Where does that
put me? Planning to upgrade to a 33Mhz 040 soon. What else do I need to
complete the package?

You can get MAC ROMs from any MAC SE/30 MAC II/IIx/or IIcx. There are MAC
repair shops that sometimes through these ROMs away as part of upgrades. You
can also call Shreve Systems (I can't remember the number)… they specialize
in selling Emplant compatible ROMs. You only need install them once, dump the
ROM image and then put them away.
With your 25Mhz 030, you would be running at the equivilant of a MAC IIci. For
the PC emulation, I am not sure yet. The 040 will definately help you in the
speed department. To properly round out your package, get a good graphics
board like the Cyberboard or the Picasso II. You will also want to make sure
you have a HD floppy drive. Another good option is to get a real MAC 800k
floppy and the UU AMIA device.

suppose you couldn't get your co-workers to write an AmiFAX package??? <grin>..
In any case, I just purchased GP Fax and having not seen the package and being
it is only one of two commercially available fax packages for the Amiga, I did
not have much of a choice. As I'm sitting here reading the manual, I see that
the package sends/receive using an A4 page setup standard. Is there a patch or
addon that will allow the software to produce 8×11 size pages??? Catcha later,
Yes, I do work for Delrina…..
No, we will never do an Amiga version of WinFax. I use GPFax v 2.342 from the
Amiga side and our Windows and MAC software with the BB and Emplant. The A4
page size is used in all countries but the US and Canada. I believe the page
default refers to the conversion of text and IFF images. Otherwise, the page
size is determined by the application such as FW printing to the GPFax printer
driver.

mentioned using the Windows and Mac version of WinFAX using the Emplant (Mac
and PC???), is everything satisfactory with the Mac and Windows (EmpPC, …
notch, notch, wink, I like that, wink, wink) use of the serial ports. ;^)

This A4 size problem does not exist!!
A fax document is defined by international standard as having pages
defined within 210 x 297 mm. If you use the really dumb method in GPFax of
converting asicc->fax or IFF->Fax, GPFax will product a page of this size
if you turn on the Pagination feature.
HOWEVER (!!!), if you use a DTP or WP, GPFax produces a fax which is the
size of the paper as defined in your program. (horizontal width is limied
however). It can be of ANY length. 2.567 inches or 15 feet!
Sorry to shout, but it is late and I am getting tired of explaining this
general misconception.

No offense taken. My problem was that since I don't frequent the Communication
section of the forum very often, any explanations associated with this feature
were probably missed not only by myself but any other user that doesn't have a
CIS account. In any case, I tried out your product late last night, and I've
got to say that I feel very good about the purchase. A native Amiga
application that aim at raising ones productivity is always a welcome addition.
BTW, any chance on adding a 90 degree fax viewing feature or a custom zoom that
allows you to select the level of zooming in/out??? Not complaining, far from
it, just making a comment. ;^) Catcha later,
Hey, you're finaly on CIS? How are things after Commodore? I just ordered my
ticket for Australia (you now the trip I planned to do for a long time but
never made it because of Studio V2). I will be down under from 13 March till 20
June. So quiet some time 😉 Maybe we can meet. I will surely stay some time in
the Brisbane/Bundaburg/Maryborough area. Beside, I now have an Australian

You should not really still be using the ascii -> fax option. Just use a
good WP or DTP program (Final Writer, PageStream etc), create the document
exactly the way you want it with fonts, graphics in full glory, then just
print to the preferences printer while GPFax is running in the background.

Just purchased your GREAT program and I like it a lot! I have one question
regarding printing from a DTP program. I print to preferences printer from
PageStream and then I send from GP Fax. When I look in the Outgoing fax list
the faxes are named prt002.p01 etc… I realize the fax I want is the last one
in the list but I was wondering if at the time of printing from Pagestream if
there was a way I could rename the fax so it would show in the fax list with a
recognizable name?
