I am doing an image which is to be reflected in water. The image reflects fine, but what do I need to do to get that photo-realistic look which really needs to show the image break-up in the water. Neither wave or ripple seems to do that, unless I am not doing them correctly. Judy

Judy, I'm working on a similar project currently and I've been using water.sxp IPAS for texture mapping, set the colors to blue and black for water colors. Map it to the faces and turn on auto reflection at about 50% and bump map at about 50-80% set ambient and diffuse to black and specular to white. Then play with your lights' reflection angles to get the desired effect. My reflections are breaking up just fine in the water ripples.

What does your basic mesh look like for water. I am just using a shallow box. Did you use the grid application or what for faces? In a shallow box there aren't very many faces <g>! I am trying to do the "Invisible City of Kitezh" which exists only as a reflection in water or in eternity. The city itself I have 2 spots on it to give it and gold and white glow, but I am having a problem with the water to reflect it in. Judy

I use a rectangle box and map the two faces with the material (water). Simple! The effect has texture but this comes from bump mapping. A grid could be used, I guess but unless you did some sort of manta IPAS or wave it wouldn't be necessary. Also, I use a very low camera angle which gives a large waves up close and very small ripples toward the horizon.
