This has been a problem since Rel 1.0! Getting the summa to work
properly with 3DS seems to be an impossible task. In rel 1.0 I was using the
summa. I had been using it for years. In 3DS the tablet would stick and jump
and would scale windows wildly. 3DS is the reason my summa sits on a shelve
now. Because of 3DS I ditched it and got a mouse. Anyone interested in use 3DS
should forget about summa and spend $50 on a good mouse.
My summa sketch plus works just fine. I use primarily in the shaper
for sketching in drawings because it is more precise than the mouse.
I prefer the mouse in all other modules because I find it faster.
Because of it's absolute movement, a digitizer is surely a more
proficient input device than a mouse. However, many people cannot
afford the extra $300 and therefore consider them to be a luxury.
If I spent $10,000 on a high end PC for CAD/Graphics, I would surely spend the
extra $$$ to improve my productivity!
Of course, I am slightly biased toward tablets.

I have to concurr. Since owning and using a tablet for the last
several months I am no longer able to use a mouse proficiently
anymore, because it doesn't point where you aim it. I saw a message
where a guys said he used a tablet, but when he wanted to do single
pixel fineries in Ani Pro he used a mouse. He must have a lousy
tablet, because most tablets have infinitely greater resolution than
mice, as I'm sure you know.

Come on now, tablets do _not_ make you more productive. I use both mouse and a
Summa III everyday and like the mouse much better for everything. I will bet
it's faster also.

I guess everybody's got their preferences, or the Summa III is a lousy tablet,
because I use a a Kurta XGT and can't stand mice. Mice are inaccurate,
uncomfortable, and have pitiful resolution. I don't understand how the
comparison can be made, and what makes them faster than tablets.
My Kurta has made me infinitely more productive. Try using Fractal Painter
with a mouse, then a tablet with pressure sensetive pen, and see which is more
productive, or faster. Or in AutoCad. I defy you to be anywhere near as
productive with a mouse as with a Tablet and puck. Try digitizing some plans
on paper with a mouse! Even in 3D Studio, when creating shapes in the 2D
shaper, or manipulating single vertices for model refinement in the 3D Editor,
mice are just too inaccurate compared to my XGT with pen even in mouse
emulation mode. When I'm forced to use a mouse (other people's machines,
etc…) it makes it painfully apparent what the real difference is.

I've got a Kurta XGT and have absolutely no problems in R2 or R3. I use it in
relative mouse mode, and it kicks butt over mice.
