#Magnum 288
3 messages in this thread
I have just recently bought a Magnum Fax/Modem 288 and am extreamly happy with
it. I got it from the Data Comm Warehouse for $129.95 and it works with NComm
3.0/GPFax/AutoPilot vs 1.77 and a host of other programs, it is fast as much as
3183 cps average on downloads from C-Net BBS's and for the dollars it is a buy
that can not be beat. It meets the V.Fast requirements, and is not V.34, but
who cares if it really works. Check it out, and if you are in the market for a
fast 28.800 baud external modem, this is the one to get.

The Magnum 288 is actually a Hayes modem that uses the propietary v.FC method
and not v.34. Who cares? No one makes v.fc modems now and you will quickly
find yourself incompatible. By the way, I found a GVC 28.8 v.34 (v.fc support
included as well) modem (Rockwell chipset) for $119. There are better deals.
