Just the other day, I heard somebody saying that the Quarter just
ain't the same since you left the Big Easy. <G>
How the heck are you doing? How's the new life in Californ-eye-A ?
It was real good to see you at SIGGRAPH running the show. A real
performer. Reminded me of the seminars you put on at Pyramid /
Connecting Point with Robert and Sammy. But you never had an
audience as big as the ones you had at SIGGRAPH.
Man, I pop back in to the forum after a couple of days rest and you
guys are going on about how hot and humid New Orleans is in the
summer.
I didn't even recognize the thread. You would think that the
"dealer's dilemna" is where to spend his summer vacation with all of
this talk about the weather.

How many times has a yat used the above phrase in explaining
to an out-of-towner why we quaff down so many Hurricanes and Mint Juleps? <G>
For those looking in, who are unfamiliar with the term, a "yat" is a
native New Orleanian, most often from a neighborhood known as the
Ninth Ward. The term is derived from a greeting they are fond of
using. It goes, "Where Y'at? Dahlin." ( Jeremy, I'd have to give
Foust some leeway on the Nahlins / N'awlins thing. )
The Mint Juleps are a southern tradition dating back before air
conditioners.
But talk about working up a sweat. You were definitely doing that
and more out on the dance floor in Orlando. I don't know who had the
funkier moves, you or Dennis Phinney, but Marcella and I sure gave
you a run for the title.
I hadn't seen anybody work up a sweat on the dance floor like you
since Cy Lum went to town after the Adesk Gathering at SIGGRAPH `93
in Anaheim. He, I and Karl Raade and friend caught a cab and went
club hopping. In addition to being an incredible animator, Cy is a
bezerkoid dancer.
You remember Cy. Some of his fantastic stuff was on the `93 reel.
Jim Coulter and I have been kicking names around for animation
companies. Cy has a good one. It's a great play on his name.
A_CY_LUM Graphics. His logo featured an image of a PC gone crazy.
He did some work for Crystal Dynamics out there in Palo Alto. At
SIGGRAPH in Orlando several people asked me, "where did Cy run off
to?" Well, he recently landed in Austin, the town where I was first
introduced to Autodesk and founded Animation Nation. Cy now serves
as director of Iguana Entertainment's Advanced Technology
Department. Iguana is a game company with titles that include "NBA
Jam," "Aero the Acrobat" and "NFL Quarterback."
BTW Iguana is running a full page ad in this month's Animation
Magazine looking for 3D Artists with experience in 3D Studio. I'm
sure you're happy as a fat cat right where you are Jeremy. <G> But

Glad to have this opportunity to chat, Jeremy. I trust all is well.
I've been following you Dealer Demo thread and I'm getting ready to
clock in with my two cents. I was fortunate to have attended a
couple of the seminars you put on in New Orleans. I can testify.
You're a lucky guy to have landed where you now are. What ever
happened to that skyline of New Orleans you were working on and the
Lakefront Airport. I heard it was some impressive stuff. But I
never got a chance to see it.
Are you working on Animator Studio with Jim Kent and Mark Gerhardt?
Would you consider this old Animator Pro expert as a Beta resource?
I'd really like to offer my input.
I've got a few interactive kiosks under my belt done completely with
Animator Pro and it's own scripting language up and running out at
the Entergy Waterford 3 Nuclear Power Plant Education Center.
Now, what were we talkin' bout. Oh yeah. The weather…. Sure is
hot.
And then there's the food in New Orleans! Any good 3DS dealers around
there? 🙂

We're talkin' seafood gumbo. Crawfish Jambalaya.
Oysters on the half shell. Shrimp cocktails.
Crabmeat Au Gratin. And that's just for breakfast. hehehehehe
For lunch, we pass around a platter of fried catfish.
How 'bout some red beans and rice?
Would you care to indulge in hot boudin straight from the Cajun Country?
You can almost here Justin Wilson saying, "WHOOOEEEE dat's some hot yeah!"
Iffin ya ain't had ya fill by the end of the day, ya can always dip into
our blackened redfish. We can sit around and crack crabs.
Have a couple of cold Turbo Dogs from Abita Springs.
And maybe a few more MudBugs. ( Crawdaddies to youse Yankees.)
Then it's out on the dance floor in between sips of Southern Comfort
and Dixie Beer. Meet you at Pat O'Briens.
Are you gettin psyched? It's only a year and a half away. hehehehe
But, John, I though you wanted to talk about the weather.

Well, personally I think New Orleans beats central L.A. anytime of the year.
But I love hanging out at Venice Beach. That's always a kick.
I'm not sure mid-summer in New Orleans is much better than Florida summers.
At least not weather-wise.
We have a saying down here that pretty much sums it up.
"It ain't the heat. it's the humidity."
We do, however, have cool drinks and cool jazz.
People and industry do move a little slower down here.
It may not be Mark Twain, but you can find people cooling and relaxing,
strolling along the levee down by the river.
I was relating to Jeremy that a humorous derivative found on
the tee shirts of party animals goes:
"It ain't the humidity, it's the stupidity."
A lot of people drink until they get stupid down here.
Alcohol is sold 24 hours, seven days a week.
For the not yet initiated, moderation is highly advised.
What a waste to travel all the way down here for an important convention,
only to miss part of it because of a hangover.
For gritty reality, you probably can't beat central L.A.
For total fantasy, Orlando shines.
New Orleans could well be a mix of both worlds.
In the middle of summer,
there's no escaping the heat,
the humidity,
or the stupidity.

We have crayfish up here, too. In fact, I'm a stone's throw from the
Crawfish River. I used to catch them as a teenager, boil 'em and eat
'em. Little did I know they were fashionable.
By the way, I received R4 and the new MM guide. There are two ads
for Intergraph's Visual Engineer systems, which appear to be some
kind of video editing system. No ad for MicroStation, in other
words. I can't imagine why a dealer would view it as a threat in any
way.

'Round Mardi Gras time the crawfish is the height of fashion.
Whole families dress up like crawdaddies and parade up and down
St. Charles Avenue. It's a real treat.

I go off for a couple of days to celebrate Animation Nation's birthday and
come back to find that "the dealer's dilemna" is a Weather and Crop Report.
Let's not go back there either. Come up with a new title. Something snappy.
Although I gotta tell you John. Mentioning Integraph's two ads in
Autodesk's Multimedia Guide in a thread titled "It's the Stupidity" seems
totally apropos.

Man, can you write! And what's this-telling all of these forumites
that I'm a party animal. I want to surpirse 'em at SIGGRAPH. Oh,
well-it's better when I'm live anyway.
Besides, if I remember correctly we ARE going to New Orleans for a
purpose-some trade show I think…
