I was testing out R4 today by first sorting through all the new IPAS in the PXP loader. I grabbed Tom Hudson's Image Browser, built an index, clicked on "view Image", and got this: (on a DOS screen) "heapmgmt. heap error {garbage text for 20 lines or so} cheap stack linked in :>no dump aborting-" and left me in my default image directory. Any ideas what caused this? Or what in general causes this type of error? Thanks, Andy

Sounds like your hardware/system-environment problem rearing its ugly head. – G

<Sounds like your hardware/system-environment problem rearing its ugly head. – G> I'm beginning to agree with you (if for no other reason but that you seem so confident about this). If this is the case, does that mean I can't get any help on this forum and that I have to contact the dealer who sold me my computer? Is there any way you know of to diagnose the problem and fix it? This kind of thing has been going on ever since I bought 3DS2 and I'd sure like to see the end of it someday! I guess this also means that Jonas has not successfully crashed his system? Andy

<< I guess this also means that Jonas has not successfully crashed his system? >> sorry.. It won't crash here with these machines but I'll try to crash a few more and my other machine at home just to make sure… . << diagnostics.. >> The first place to start would be to take out the boards that are truely not needed by 3ds. Strip your autoexec.bat to a path statement and a load mouse statement. Strip your config.sys to files=# and buffers=# *ONLY*. (no memory manager, no nothing.. ) Run any memory diagnostics, run disc surface scan test, etc.. If everything is clean.. run 3ds in this stripped environment and see if your problems still persist. Do all this and post your results. Best of luck with the sluethin'. jonas[adesk]
