Trent, my output from DV1 & 2 is mighty fine. It's when I run black from my
Leader sycn. gen. (which by the way, Ped. goes from 7.5 to 9 by the time it is
output) on Input 1, I get just a little black ghosting from DV1 or 2 of
whatever is store there, like the Toaster 4000 Logo, while blacking a tape from
Ch. 1. Doesn't happen with my other record decks, same wiring, same AC plug,
everything the same. Been working in video for 20 years and even make my own
cables, but my UVW1800 seems to have a problem in input stage. Haven't had the
time to figure it all out, but HEEEYY, it's BRAND NEW, come on Sony, I won't
talk about the 3 kinds of Time Code I have to put up with. Sony marketing , MY
headaches.
John-
A thread about three months ago on the Broadcast Professionals forum discussed
problems some 1800 users were having with black input. One user is now working
with Sony-Japan on the problem, although I have yet to hear resolution.
I did come up with a fix that helps a lot in my configuration. I put a "Lopez"
low-pass filter between the Toaster and the 1800. It cleaned up my blacks a
lot. It looks like the 1800 may be too sensitive to high-end interference.
The filter is available in composite or component versions from
Smith-Audio Video (the Y/C Plus people) at 913/235-3481.
Thanks for the info, Steve…
