With Quicken having all kinds of new versions coming out, any word on
a new version for QuickBooks DOS?

The information I got last night from Intuit says "I'm writing to you
now about our new Windows version of QuickBooks because of Intuit's
decision not to produce any major upgrades to QuickBooks for DOS. As
you may know, the DOS market is shrinking rapidly….."
Spoken like Darth Vader. I'm afraid the MS Empire has begun its evil
upon Intuit's customers (jamming Windows down our throats whether we
want it or not). Frankly, as an OS/2 user, I'm even more disgusted.
From reports I've read, Quicken 4.0 for Windows will NOT work under
OS/2. I'm suspecting that the same will be the case for QuickBooks.
Since Intuit has not responded to requests for clarification of
whether they will respond to incompatibilities of their products
under OS/2, I'm not going to purchase any of their products in the
future. I'm hoping that several million other OS/2 users will also
do the same.
I am very uncomfortable with MS controlling the OS and the
applications, then purposefully sabatoging their applications when
users run them on non-MS platforms. Who needs that headache? (I
have no intention of going to the Dark Side and converting to
Windows, until and unless their are no alternatives. And if their
are no alternatives, the FTC will probably be real interested in the
situation again).

Intuit's decision to cease development of QuickBooks for DOS products
is was based on a declining market for DOS versions of QuickBooks.
The decision was made before the any talks of a merger with Microsoft
began. If you work like to see continued development on the DOS
version, or an OS/2 version, please post a message in the Suggestions
section of this forum. The marketing and product development teams
will see your message.
For those who are experiencing problems running Quicken 4 for Windows
with OS/2, there is a solution. Look in the Quicken/Windows library
for the file titled "GPF's with OS/2.11.

While I thank you very much for the response to running current
versions of QB and Q under OS/2, the fact remains that MS has an
undisputable attitude towards non-MS platforms. And much of this
comes about from the use of undocumented system calls which were one
of the many issues that the FTC addressed.
If we can get a formal, written committment that MS will not pull the
rug under from us in the future, you will do much to keep several
thousand customers who happen to prefer OS/2 to DOS-Windows. And
remember that until recently (version 3.0 of QforW had some severe
problems with one of the modules, as I recall), all your software ran
just swimmingly under OS/2.
Again, thanks for the information about the file regarding getting
QforW 4.0 running under OS/2. I almost purchased QB3, but the box
made me quiver with fear of losing my business' records. Can you
specifically confirm that QB3 will run correctly out of the box under
OS/2???
