I have recently been approached by a client about a few intro spots for his station. I wanted to know any stipulations and/or considerations about using characters owned by other companies. This client wishes to use comic book characters in his intro and I want to know if the usage is to be legally cleared by him and the company, or simply given copyright credit within the spots. Am I to be at fault legally, or is that the concern of the contractee? I do not wish to create any legal problems by any means and any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, in advance.

Don't do it without EXPLICIT written authorization, which you're not likely to get in the first place. If the characters are from someone like Disney, they'll destroy you legally. I remember them suing a day care center in Florida a few years ago, becuase they had their characters painted on the INTERIOR walls. They were removed pronto. This is serious business !

yea,, that day care was in my town ! It made a major big stink here. Gainesville boycotted Disney for a while, but on the bright side, Hanna Barbara came in and gave them new characters to put up!

<< Hanna Barbara came in and gave them new characters to put up! >> No kidding ? That's great. It did seem kinda' excessive to me.

>Hanna Barbara came in and gave them new characters to put up! That's cool of them. I always liked HB characters better anyways.. (not like I go to day cares… <g>) JNJ
