Have you seen or used the Apple 300e CDROM or do you know what mechanism is
inside the enclosure? I understand that you can copy direct to hard disk any
digitally recorded music/sound CDROM. I'd like to find one like it but maybe
more than 2x speed.

I believe the Toshiba 3501 supports digital audio playback on the SCSI bus. The
problem is that I know of no software on the Amiga that takes advantage of this
feature.

The Toshiba 3401B I have supports digital audio playback through the SCSI bus,
and there is a software package here in the forums (I believe it's in AmigaUser
or AmigaArts) that makes use of it. I've used it before, and it works; plays
right through the Amigas stereo out jacks. It is, however, limited to 8 bit
sound quality, but if I remember right, you can also record the music direct to
your hard drive without any additional hardware.
