#IPAS Newsletter

(note to sysop; please leave this up as long as you can. thanks)
Hello all.
I'm working on my IPAS newsletter.
First; I was going to call it "3DS / XP" , but I was thinking of shortening it
to
"3D / XP"….. What do you all think?
Second; After talking to a bunch of people (and mostly Greg Pyros) ,
it looks like there is going to be a major format change. What do
you think of a "Share Ware" newsletter? The contents would be
uploaded to the 'Net and maybe an online service or two. Anyone could
download it, but those that register would get it E-Mailed to them
and would recieve a hard copy annual with index (maybe soon it could
be each issue on CD Rom). Does anyone have any other ideas?
Third: I NEED WRITERS, IDEAS, HOW-TO's, and anything else that goes
with an IPAS Newsletter. Talk to me.
Hi David!
Your idea sounds great. If you want to have a RayMan How-To article please
tell me. I can tell you stories… <g>.
Michael
YES-YES-YES
Rayman me to the limit!!!!!
a cool how to would be great
How about something to use for a cover pic.
plus you gotta tell me the "<g> stories" (I can't wait)
See ya soon
-David
OK, you`ll get the stories <bg>.
We have a lot of great beta tester and I think there are one or two or
billions images made with RayMan.
I have made a nice bathroom in a resolution of 2048×1365. I`ll upload a small
version in the lib in the next days. You might want it for a cover pic. It
looks really great. Everyone I showed the image can`t believe that it`s made on
a PC…
Michael
Thanks for letting me use your bathroom (that didn't come out right <G>)
But seriously folks….
Thanks, can't wait to see it
Bye (for now)
-David
You can count me in to contribute and register.
Great.
Now, how about some ideas for a contribution.
What would you like to do????
See ya' later
-David
I think that idea is brilliant. Count me in to subscribe and to
contribute with articles.
Great.

Hi David,
Well, Like the others, I'm open to anything. I've been working a little with
Pupeteer. So maybe that would be the one to do…
Let me know.
Alex K.
What ever turns you on….
If you think you could do an interesting Puppeteer HowTo, I'm sure I could use
it.
What kind of 3D work do you do?
see ya'
-David
looking foward seeing anything of value from you!
Ken
>looking foward seeing anything of value from you!
What I'm trying to do is collect "things of value" from 3D Studio users and
make them available to other 3D Studio users.
So far nothing has been received so nothing can be put out. Please have
patience. Is there some way you would like to increase the value of this
project?
Do you have any ideas for 3D/XP? What kind of work do you do?
Regards
-David
PMJI, but I'd like to see/contribute to such a compilation of the tips seen
here in the forum. I've been collecting threads on motion capture, SKIN.AXP,
landscape making, other IPASs, etc.
I'm I guess one of the Senior Animator/Designers for Mechadeus, a CDROM
entertainment developer in San Francisco. We designed, animated, etc, the CDROM
game Critical Path, published by Media Vision last year. Now we're finishing up
our second CD game title The Daedalus Encounter, starring Tia Carrere and
Christian Bocher. It's gonna be a hell of a lot more interactive (that was one
of the hits we got for critpath), and it just plain looks rad. I'd like to
upload some sample anims and stills soon. This is my first CG/anim job. I've
been here since Dec. 1991, after I'd graduated from Rhode Island School of
Design, with a BFA in illustration, but absolutely no 3D or animation
experience, so a lot of what I've learned has been through experiments, other
artists, and this forum.
Mechadeus is about 10 3D artists, 5 programmers, 2 digital video/editing heads,
plus management. We split off from Mondo Media (a contract multimedia firm) in
May 1993 to create Critical Path.
I've been on CS only about a year, so I don't know how great my contribution
might be, but I'd like to give back for all the great, free help I've gotten
here.

I'd love to see some of your work. Anything you could contribute to 3D/XP would
be much appreciated (be it articles, images, animations, tips, ideas, etc).
Looking forword to hearing (and seeing) more from you
Regards and thanks

David,
I'll be uploading some JPEGs pretty soon here in Images/Anims. Is the format of
3D/XP going to be similar to the 3DStudio Special Effects book, where a chapter
is devoted to each effect how-to, or more of a listing, or ???
Eric
I just saw some of work in the new Computer Graphics World, amazing.
The actual final format of 3D/XP is still under consideration. I
would like to format it similar to 3D Studio Special Effects but also
include question and answers, simple tips and tricks, interviews,
product reviews, art, animation and lots of IPAS, SCRIPT programing
information. I originally planned to make 3D/XP a hard-copy
newsletter / magazine (thats my only publishing experience ) but a
couple of things happened to change it. 1) I talked to a lot of
knowledgeable people and 2) Some financing that was promised to me
evaporated Now I'm looking at distribution via the Internet / E-Mail
and also via floppy disk, or if I can find some backing again, via
CD-ROM (you don't happen to know anyone involved in interactive CD
Rom development, do you <G>????)
I can't wait to see your JPEGS. Seriuosly, if you have any suggestions
on how to do a CD newsletter, please let me know. (It may not happen
on the first or second issue, but you never know….) Thanks again,
Eric,
Regarding your woeful tale about the The Daedalus Encounter:
< starring Tia Carrere …it just plain looks rad. … my first CG/anim job. >
Mr. Chadwick, Some guys have all the luck.
Sounds kickin'. Can't wait to see it.
<..so a lot of what I've learned has been through experiments, other artists, >
< and this forum. >
Does somebody need further justification for hanging out here??????
Kevin Gibson
Kevin,
<Some guys have all the luck.
<Sounds kickin'. Can't wait to see it.
Whoa, I hope we stay lucky…. who knows, it could be a flop…
Hope not… we've bled too much to get this stuff out. I'll be uploading some
JPEGs soon.
Eric
Hey Kevin….
IF I needed some kind or PR, what would you have in mind….
Thanks
-David
It's great to have you up here, Eric!
I look forward to reading some great tips from y'all at Mechadeus. Your stuff
always looks great!
-Alan
Your concept sounds very good and I would be interested in writing as
well as signing up. Please contact me with further info.
This a great idea. count me in as a Reader, Writer and problem solver….
With Thanks
Sus.

David,
I'm really open to anything.
The most recent thing I've uploaded is the SkinHead anim in the IPAS Usage
section.
I would be interested in doing some how-to's regarding using multiple ipas
routines to acheive a single effect.
(i.e. disintegrate+smoke+glow+flame+vapor+motion blur = a good explosion on top
of a 3D Studio rendering composited over a Vistapro background).
or possibly how to do realistic skin morphing for character animation.
I think that a scripts section would be good for the newsletter. (that's
something I'm not too familiar with)
Hope this helps!
-Kyle
>3D-XP, 3dsXP, whatever
Sounds cool. Would this be text only, or include sample files (bitmaps, etc.)?
I think it'd be cool to have a supplemental floppy that would contain examples.
.Gif/.JPG's and small .flics would be cool. (or have a .zip online)
Scripts would definately be cool- how to's, and useful stuff.
I'll be thinking about something useful to add..
JNJ
I am considering doing a floppy or maybe even a CD. I'm sure That I can fit
enough stuff on a floppy to make it worthwhile. I'm looking into ways to send
Bitmaps (incl. advertising???) on the internet , maybe binary file transfer?
Which do you prefer for the name 3DS / XP or 3D / XP ?
As far as scripts go, I am planing on making them one of the main focuses of
this project.
Thanks for note
-David
Hi David.
I think there is a room for questions and answer section, and maybe a "1 to 1
step on how to…" for new fun tricks
or for some answers.
Sus.

I agree with you 100 percent!
Is there anyway you would like to help out???

P.S. What kind of 3D work do you do?
