PAR and LAntastic 5.0/6.0 Problem I have just purchased the PAR, Micropolis 2217A IDE hard drive and TBC-IV for the PC. Received it Firday 11-11-94. I have installed it in an MS-DOS PC with an Intel 80486-DX 50 CPU, 16 Mb ram, MS-DOS 6.2, 3D-Studio 4.0, MS-Windows 3.1, a VGA Wonder XL video card with a Buss-Mouse on IRQ 2, a NEX2000 NIC card set at IRQ 5 IOBase 320. It has a 340 Mb IDE Hard drive, a 1.44 Mb and 1.2 Mb FD, 101 Key Keyboard, and a SVGA monitor. A fairly plain system. I installed the PAR, hard drive and TBC-IV as per the factory recommended settings for the PC. (the diskettes that I used to install the PAR/TBC-IV software are labeled PAR V1.80 and TBC-IV 1.09) When I render to my local hard drive or to the PAR without the Lantastic network running, everything works fine. However if I boot up my PAR and then my Lantastic program, I CAN NOT copy any type of file (*.txt, *.bat, *.TGA, ect) from any of the other network nodes to my hard drive. Nor can I copy any network *.TGA files to my PAR drive from within the PAR program. I GET a DRIVE READ ERROR!! This problem arises when ever I boot the PAR then Lantastic, or Lantastic then the PAR. It even happens if I boot Lantastic and then initialize the PAR from within the Lantastic Startnet.bat file. If I DO NOT boot up my PAR drive, I can start the Lantastic network and copy the *.TGA files from the other nodes to my local hard drive (drive C). If I then reboot my computer without the Lantastic net, then boot up the PAR, I can then copy the *.TGA files from my local hard drive (drive C) to the PAR drive from within the PAR program, and the ANI file will play just fine. I need to be able to read *.TGA files from across the net to my PAR drive!!!! Can anyone tell me what settings I need to change, I have 6,457 *.TGA files that I have rendered on the net, and need to copy to my PAR drive. BTW I rendered the *.TGA files at a resolution of 752x480x.851 The PAR reads these files just fine if I copy them to my local drive without the PAR booted up, then reboot without the net and then boot up my PAR drive. thanks Rodger Lost in the NET

Rodger I am using the PAR with Lantastic 5.0 with 3 systems on the NET. One thing you have not mentioned is how you defined the PAR drive in the NET_MGR (under the Shared Resources Management menu). You need to set this option -Disk Drive Type: Other- this will enable the other drives to see the PAR drive. If you have already done this, you might have a memory management problem. Try removing all unnecessary files in config.sys and autoexec.bat (i.e. CD-ROM, SOUND CARD, and any other misc. drivers). The same goes for all unnecessary I/O cards also. Good Luck!
