#PAR problem
5 messages in this thread
Today I reformatted my PAR drive, after the problem I had last week when I
deleted a project directory and things messed up.
After reformatting I created a few new prj directories and copiedmy backed up
files again onto the PAR.
Then the following happened, all stills which are mainly the
colourbars where copied back on without any problem. But when
copying back one animation, when playing it on the PAR (1250 frames)
At about 3/4 the images went shaking like when you get when your Block
Limit is set to high so I overdid the whole process and the same
happened at the same place. However that animation played OK on the
PAR before I formatted the drive, did something go wrong when
exporting the ANI to a DOS disk???
How can I put this right, I luckely still have the TGAs to recomposite the
animation in about 2.5 hours through videopost, but what happened this eems
still to be some kind of bug???
BTW does anyone know when a future software upgrade solving some of our
encountered problems mey be out or available, btw where are the DPS people on
this forum they seem to have vanished in the last 3 weeks???

Christophe,
The problems are know to the DPS-people ( I think Brick is on a fair
somewhere in the UK). Will be back this week or so. We are getting
more and more to the basics of the problem. I will keep you informed.
I hope this message will reache you because i'm working on my
Notebook now and didn't install the WINCIM.
I have had a similar experience but I didn't share it as I thought it
had more to do with Pathworks and OpenVMS than anything PAR related.
Anyway, can you confirm that your .ani files when copied back to the
PAR drive all play for the same duration (for me 0-127 frames were
good, frame #128 was the first of the frazzled frames)? I had five
different segments and all went bad on the exact same frame. I had
copied my files from the PAR to a DEC Alpha via Pathworks' NFT 'copy'
command. Reading up I found that I needed to put in the /block
qualifier to allow longer records to be transfered. Were you copying
your files back and forth with DOS commands? There may be some
qualifier which you may need to use as I required. Gus would be the
guy to talk to I suspect.
This is just a thought 'cos I haven't tried it yet, but if you record
an ani on the outer tracks that allow a high block limit, then
back-up to dos disk and then later restore to a fuller PAR drive; you
may be putting it back where a lower limit is required. What then?
I know that the PAR has a problem with overheating. I currently have
an Amiga version that I had to drill out the back of the case and
install a fan. Since then I have had no more problems with it
"freaking out" every once in a while (except when I delete projects!

Hope this helps…
(You can try just removing your case cover from your PC and if the problem
goes away, it was heat/ventilation related…)
