Hello, I'm making animations of architectural projects featuring dissolves from a photo of a building to an animated representation of it. I need software that can determine the camera postion and lens from a photograph and some information on the spatial relationships of things in the photo. Anyone know of such software? Thanks in advance, Tony

In usual practice, those measurments are made when the photograph is taken… then the renderer is setup and tuned to those dimensions. Bri

I have as-built drawings of the projects, so inputting the dimensional info into a program is no problem. Tony

Use those and take the photo from a known, measured position relative to the drawing coordinates. You could also measure to the position you are 'looking at'. Then you set-up the renderer the same way, then you tune the amount of perspective to match. Some techniques go to the extent of rendering with a physical 'camera lens' object, to simulate the distortion of the camera lens for a perfect match. Thats usually going overboard though. 😉

What you want is very hard to do if not impossible. If you have a clearly visible perspective in the photo it might be possible, but it's going to be very hard. I once saw an add in a magazine (3D Artist Mag.). It allows you to build a 3D object from a series of photos. You have to take the photos from certain angles. I don't have it, so I can't tell you much about it. -David
