#Ideas for novice

I'm interested in getting involved with computer animation and have been
wondering what sort of qualifications I would need. I'm considering getting a
new computer for creating videos and multimedia presentations. Any ideas on
which platform is the most used? So many people I know have Macintosh, but
price is a definite factor here. I guess I just want some ideas on what would
be the best system for the least money. I'm thinking on using Adobe Premiere,
as well as some 3-D package (like Infinity).
Ideally, I would like to be producing special effects with video. Do you need
to know any programming languages for this?
Any ideas to get me started would be greatly appreciated. I just need to know
that the system I purchase will get me to where I want to be.

I just saw your message from last Wednesday, and though I hesitate to
recommend a particular computer, I do have some advice that should be helpful
to you. When searching for a computer, the best approach is to start with the
most important software you will want to use, and buy the computer that runs
that software the best. You may want to look at the messages in the various
sections of this forum, as they discuss the use of some of the programs you
will probably want to consider using. When the time comes to get your
computer, CPU speed, amount of memory, and Hard Disk size are the most
important issues for generating animations. Look for a fast processor, as much
RAM as you can afford, and a large sized fast Hard Disk (greater than 500
MegaBytes and less than 15 milliseconds).
