Editing Hardware — declared parent_msg_num=(none), resolved parent_id points to #(none)

Howdy, new here. I am hoping you can clarify some information for me. I am
running a Quadra 800, internal 230mb hd, 20 mb ram. I have video vision studio.
I am trying to edit VHS tapes that I upload to my computer through video
vision, edit, then download back to the vcr. Well the quality stinks,
regardless of window size. After spending $10k I'm being told I need to buy a
hard disc array. I have also found some device that allows thru-put to be
increased satisfactorily (4mb/sec) with an external hard drive (say a 2gig). I
would appreciate your thoughts as I feel everyone I talk to is giving me
garbage to sell me something!!
