Hi Daniel: SoftF/X (formerly called Envisage 3D) offers most of the features found in 3D Studio with the exception of their compositing module. SoftF/X is a true 32-bit application that runs under Windows 3.1 (with Win32 S DLL) and "Windows NT whereas 3D Studio is DOS based. SoftF/X is much easier to learn and use, much lower cost, and multi-tasks well with other Windows programs. Rendering times are comparable, and in some cases faster, even under Windows. Like 3D Studio, SoftF/X offers a completely open architecture for third parties to plug in their own modelers, shaders, special effects, animation scripts, post processes, etc. 3D Studio currently has the edge in the number of plug-ins available although we are actively solicting support from IPAS developers. SoftF/X lists for $995. We are offering a limited time 50% introductory discount through 12/94. While we do offer educational pricing, it is not available on the introductory price.
