How would you compare Byte-by-Byte's Envisage 3D to Autodesk's 3D Studio? And, are there any packages or deals for just anybody or for, say, a middle school student? Thanks, Daniel

Hi Daniel: SoftF/X (formerly called Envisage 3D) offers most of the features found in 3D Studio with the exception of their compositing module. SoftF/X is a true 32-bit application that runs under Windows 3.1 (with Win32 S DLL) and "Windows NT whereas 3D Studio is DOS based. SoftF/X is much easier to learn and use, much lower cost, and multi-tasks well with other Windows programs. Rendering times are comparable, and in some cases faster, even under Windows. Like 3D Studio, SoftF/X offers a completely open architecture for third parties to plug in their own modelers, shaders, special effects, animation scripts, post processes, etc. 3D Studio currently has the edge in the number of plug-ins available although we are actively solicting support from IPAS developers. SoftF/X lists for $995. We are offering a limited time 50% introductory discount through 12/94. While we do offer educational pricing, it is not available on the introductory price. Best of luck with whatever product that you choose. Regards, Scott Peterson P.S.: Sculpt 4.0 is only available for the Macintosh and Power Macintosh. Pricing is in the ball park of 3D Studio.

Quick couple of questions. Do you still offer a demo of Soft F/X as per Envisage? If so, is the cost still the same as per the Envisage demo? And finally, is Soft F/X set up to take advantage of SMP in NT machines? Please reply; I posted a similar post when the forum opened concerning Envisage and received no reply. I currently use 3ds and am looking for an additional program for modelling. Thank you. John Stetzer JWS
