#Moving objects
3 messages in this thread
Nick,
I've just gotten your Simply 3D product. Looks very cool.
I'm having a strange problem, tho. I've made a 3d object from a 2d
picture, so that the matte color is transparent, using the built-in make 3d
object function. When I try to move this guy, tho, it seems to collapse into
a sinlge point, marked by a red hourglass. I can't seem to push it to where I
want it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanx,

Hi Mark:
One of two things is probably happening.
1. Remember that the "3D" object consists of a single 2D plane on which the
image is mapped with the alpha dropout. Perhaps you are rotating the object
instead of moving it, and so looking at the object "edge-on" where it has no
thickness.
2. Remember that polygons only exist in one direction. If the Display Backface
button is not pressed on on the command bar, moving or rotating the object may
expose the "backside" of the polygon (which doesn't exist) to the camera, and
therefore you see nothing.
I hope this helps. If not please let me know and I'll take anothe stab at it.
Best regards,

Nick,
Thanks for your reply to my problem of the disappearing object. Now,
like those knocking sounds the car makes until you take it to the garage, the
problem has disappeared. I'll try to reproduce it and let you know the
specifics.
It was not that I was rotating it, or viewing it from the rear, tho.
I'm sure of that (Well…. pretty sure <G>)
