>> Hi Alan Thanks for the help. I an trying to make a model airplain I have made the wing and and fuselage and cant join them !! I still hafe to make the tail prop and wheels . the prop will nead to turn and the wheels will nead to turn and then fold into the wing . Is the limit I am runing into 64k faces or 64k vertex or 64k ( faces+vertexs) ? (wht can't autodesk conpile with a long int) I used deform fit to loft the fuselage I will make it simplier and then add parts to it this may keep the count doun. I was planing to use autosurf to make the prop blades . I have been digitizing plans in ACAD-12-autoserf and dxf-ing them into 3ds. If I boolean the wings on will in stead of join them will I save on the face count ? This is just a project I picked to learn modeling with 3ds acad and autosurf and has no teal inport Ben << I believe the limit is based on the long integer (16-bit) that both AutoCAD and 3DS use to index vertices in a Polyface mesh. Each vertex has an index from 0 to 655335(?). Each face has 3 long integers pointing to a vertex. This limits the number of vertices to 64K. I don't know about the limit on the number of faces but I think that has the same limit for similar reasons. Gary Yost has said that this is a leftover from the first incarnation of 3DS and would be changed in the next release. I don't know if AutoCAD has any plans for their equivalent meshs. Can you get by without actually attaching the wings to the body? In real life there would be a seam at the join anyway would there not? Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates

Hi Terry the wings should jone the fuselage with a fillet this can't be dune in 3ds or if it can I don't know how . I it can be dune acad 13 or autosurf as for not joining the parts I will haft to think about that if ate airplain dosent move then the must move around it OK Albert but there is still no free lunch Ben

There will be a small seam where the faces of the wing meet the faces of the body because smoothing groups do not work across objects. This is probably how the joint would look in real life anyway. If your problem is setting up an animation, you don't need the wings attached to the body either. Just assign the wings as children of the body in a heirarchy. Then as you move the body, the wings will remain "attached". Does this address your needs?

Ben, Just hang in there Ben. 3D modeling is really problem solving and each problem you solve helps prepare you for the next one. Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates
