I'm attempting to set up 3D Studio v3 on a 32Mb 486/66 running an MGA Impression 3Mb VL graphics board. On the advice of the sysop in the Matrox forum, I downloaded the v1.05 inline driver for 3DS v3 and now cannot configure the program properly. I run 3DS VIBCFG, select VIBRANT for the Main Display, then MGA as the graphics board. I select a resolution, and when I test the display, the Vibrant slide appears perfectly; however when I press any key or wait the ten seconds, I'm locked up with a black screen. The only resolution where this lockup doesn't happen is at 640x480x16. With 3Mb, the board is supposed to be able to do 1024x768x16 million… am I doing something wrong?

Dave I'm not sure what your immediate problem is, but in general I've found that running the Main Display in higher that 256 colors can cause problems. There is nothing in the display that uses more that 256 and sometimes the color swatch for Object color doesn't work at higher than 256. Maybe that will cure your problem as well?

Ted – thanks for the suggestion; I'll give it a try.
