Hi I downloaded one of your .sit files and unsit.arc as your
description instructed…. but you gave no instructions on how to
use unsit.arc. Since typing in unsit did nothing I guessed that I
needed to unarc it (wasn't self extracting) so I downloaded lharc212,
extracted that and tried to unarc unsit.arc with lha e unsit.arc
command. lha gave message that no file was found….What's going
on? Why are we having to unarc a program to unarc another program to
unsit the object of my desire…! Seems kinda silly to make things
so inaccessible. Please advise. JJ

I just went thru that also. Search the library here for keyword=ARC. You
should see a text file that describes compressed files and where to get various
decompressors. GO IBMSYS for a boatload of utilities. Also, if you have PKZIP
et. al., you should have pkxarc too, which will decompress the .ARC file.
BTW: what lib file did you download? I just got the vette mesh.
I think it is really stupid (or cheap) to upload a compressed decompression
program. I even found a version of an unarcing tool that was arc'ed!!

thanks for your input Ray. I'll see what I can figure out. By the
way I tried lharc already but that didn't do it. Hopefully something
out there will work. No kidding about being cheap either…sometimes
CIS drives me crazy with how things get dead ended.. for instance I
downloaded a utility for converting .avi to .flc files but it turns
out I needed an additional utility so I downloaded that…and that
didn't work either because I needed videdit from Microsoft so I left
message with them and they said to call an 800 number….so I did that
and they sent me back to CIS. Hey isn't that where all this started
in the first place…
There were a few.sit files that sounded interesting. I'm
working on an ancient egyptian fairy story and wanted the 3d mesh of
Nefertiti which is how this started.
To end this sorry story I called the tel # that accompanied the
description for the .sit file and they didn't seem to know anything
about uploaded files on CIS….interesting huh? Oh well , thanks
for your interest..I'll let you know if it finally works out Bye JJ
Good luck with your scavenging. I wouldn't be too hard on CIS. It's
the nature of software that things are built up from a myriad of
small components. BTW, videdit comes with Microsoft Video for
Windows, which I'm pretty sure you can find on CIS in one of the
Microsoft forums (try the MS Windows Forum).
