Can anyone offer any tips on printing from the Amiga? Until recently, I've
never even had a printer hooked up to my 4000, and have done all my printing by
transferring everything over to the PC. Now that I've hooked up an HP DeskJet
550C to the 4000, I'm *still* having to print everything on the PC!
Here's what I've tried:
Found an Amiga driver for the 550C, and installed it in the drawer with all the
other printer drivers…
Went to the PREFS drawer, selected PRINTER, chose the 550C driver, selected
PRINTER GFX, plus the other 2 configurable printer-related icons, and set
everything up the way I wanted it…
Go to the TOOLS drawer, and double-click 'InitPrinter', then 'GraphicDump'…
Also tried "Print Area" from ImageMaster…
THE RESULTS: Page after page of sheets with nothing but a line of two of
unreadable garbage; continues until the printer is turned off…
Hints and tips, anyone?

I've never had occasion to use graphic dump. I usually use a program to
print to the preferences printer. Do you have an application programs
that have print commands. Of course, you could try copying the
startup-sequence to prt:, or even par:

Yeah, I got the message you accidentally sent Fred over on the AmigaVend forum.
Gonna try to figure out a way to use the PRT: setting, but by all means, if you
know how, please tell me…

The general way to print on the Amiga is through an application program,
such as Final Copy II. Most programs on the Amiga print through the
Preferences Printer, set with Preferences. You select the printer once
and all programs use the same driver.
If you want to test the printer without using a printing program, you can
copy text files (like Startup-Sequence from the S: directory) to the
printer port, PRT:, or the printers hardware port, PAR:. Either way, the
text file should appear on the printer's output.
BTW, be sure the printer preferences indicate that the printer is attached
to the parallel port, not the serial port, which requires baud rate
settings, etc.

The problem was my Amiga's incompatibility with the little automatic A/B switch
that I was attempting to use to share the printer between the Amiga and the PC.
After I removed it, everything worked fine.

I think maybe your printer prefs settings may be wrong.I think having anything
but ordered dithering may mess up your prints.i also think the driver you d/l
may haveo nly been made to work with pagestream,as alot of the drivers in
amigauser seem to be.also why don't you try printing from multiview?just
convert the pc images with grafix convert 1.1,or packtga, or superview to
create an image you can view with multiview.and print from multiview
Don't print from MultiView. I get so many bug reports from users. MultiView has
serious bugs printing images or text. There is no cure I know of instead of
trashing MultiView for printing.

It was the little automatic A/B switch causing the problem; works fine once I
removed it…
