#cross platform animation
5 messages in this thread
Is anyone aware of method/software to move completed animations cross platform
between the PC and Lightwave? Don't really care which software on the PC or the
Amiga for that matter – just if there is anway to get close to this.
We do alot of Toaster work….but have most of our talent/machines on the
animation side using PC's….and would sure like these two sides to talk.
Thanks

George, if you have a PAR on your Amiga you could com transfer through a null
modem .tga's and have the par assemble them. I do this all the time between 3DS
and the Amiga.

How do you find the speed of moving .TGA's through a nullmodem. I'm going
to be picking up a PC in the next week or two and I'll want to hook it to
my Amiga so I can use the PAR.
I was looking through the latest Amiga World a couple of weeks ago and saw
an ad for a Parnet type system to transfer files between a PC and Amiga.
I think it sells for about $60. You might want to look into that for a bit
of a speed increase.

Transfering .TGAs may be a waste of bandwidth, you'd be able to transfer
10 times faster if you use 100% JPEG. With little loss of quality.
I don't have a PAR so I can't really tell you more. JPEG is great at 10/1
compression ratio IMHO.

John, I know that JPEG is better size wise but I would then have to decompress
to assemble in PAR. A waste of time. I usually send them when I am getting
ready to leave and it's not like I'm sending 6000 frame anims over. I can live
with this setup for now. I am getting ready to put them all on the company
network so I won't have to do this much longer and I usually only end up
transferring one or two anims every 3 months.
thx
