Thanks for the info! I am a current user of 3DS, but it's a student copy. As
soon as I acquire my business, the price for a full business version of 3DS
would be about three times that of LW!!!! Definately a tremendous difference in
price.
Dan,
I've heard of Autodesk's student prices for 3D Studio, but the one thing
I've always wondered about is how do they know who's using what? I was
under the impression that the student version had the same output as the
full commercial version and that it had the same features.
Since you've got less invested in software than a buseness user, what's to
stop you from doing commercial work and charging less?
Considering the number of people on the Internet asking about the 'invalid
normal array' (pirated copy, bad dongle hack) I can't believe Autodesk is
willing to trust people when they say they're not going to do paying jobs.

Other than the dongle, there is no difference. Unfortunately, when you buy the
prog, you sign an agreement that you are not to use this copy for business use,
only scholastic purposes. I have heard that they may change this to a
freelancers status (it's OK until you hire employees-type-thing), but I don't
want to violate any contracts I've signed. I guess it all depends on the buyer
and the responsibility of that buyer. (Is there a software police?) That
freelancer's deal would be a great load off my wallet!!
Until next time
