#True Color Paint Program

Hi There, I have Animator Pro & 3D Studio 3. I want to get a "true color" paint program to use with 3DS. Does "true color" mean 24-bit? Can anyone reccommend a good paint program(s)? BTW, I already have Lotus Freelance Graphics that is included with Lotus Smartsuite. I have never used it. Is this a paint program that can be used with 3DS?

Upgrade price from Animator Pro is sweet too. -dave

they'll be an upgrade path from Animator Pro (8-bit) to Animator Studio (24-bit) some time next year. Maybe around March. If you can't wait I can recommend Photoshop 3.0 for Windows – it's the industry standard.

Although Photoshop may have a few more features, I like the interface of Photostyler better , especially for easy pixel by pixel control of selection areas which is important in making seamless textures. Im looking foward to Painter 3 with its support for sequential file modification. Im trying to figure out if Painter 3 might enable me to pass up the much more expensive Penello.

Ed: Since the merger of Adobe and Aldus I believe that Photostyler's days are numbered. I have already heard an UNCONFIRMED rumor that there will be no more PStyler realeases. Maybe a forumite who has the skinny could give us the word. I'm looking to transition over to Photoshop soon, perhaps it'll be in the form of an upgrade to PStyler. Bob

PC Week has already quoted Adobe/Aldus saying that Pstyler is dead and is no longer being shipped. Pstyler 2 users will be offered a $199 upgrade to Photoshop 3.0 – it's a deal. I've been waiting for such an offer and rumours have been flying since Siggraph of such an eventuality.

Martin: I hadn't heard that PStyler was that dead, but the upgrade offer has been around for a few months. I'm looking at my latest PC CONNECTION mail order catalog, and you can get the PStyler->PShop upgrade from them for $189.95. Dave

Hi, Chris. If you are looking for a paint program with the ability to draw & paint using very-well-simulated traditional media, might I suggest Fractal Design Painter. Version 3.0 for windows is just starting to ship this week, and promises to greatly facilitate animation creation. I haven't used Photoshop much since I got FDP 2.0/x2. I recommend it highly!:) Type GO GUGRPA for a forum that covers FDP and Photoshop, along with several other useful graphics programs. Regards, Connie
