Chris Erving: My name is Barry Bepple, I have tried your internal expansion
upgrade to the one megabyte mark and so far am very pleased with my success, my
compliments to you!!! However, one problem has existed and that is with the RAM
disk. When I load my RAM disk up with the various C directory commands it
crashes. If I add memory afterwards there is no problem, but I cannot do it
before. Is there a problem? Have you had this happen to you? I have one of the
first machines out and now quite a few of us want to upgrade but are wondering
how this will work out in the long run. I have the original file that was
uploaded Nov – 8. I would appreciate any response that you may have, and
thanks!

I am not the originator of the internal memory expansion project, I only posted
it here on CIS. I have not experienced the difficulty you have, but I will look
into it. There may be a problem with the modification when running under 1.2
concerning autoconfiguration of the added memory. The problem is supposed to be
corrected by the "make512k" routine that is included in the arc. This is not
the case, however. The problem has been brought to the designer's attention,
and another fellow out in Calif. has devised an additional modification to put
an end to the problem once and for all. I will lokk into this and pass along
all info asap. Untill then, I would advise your friends to hold off on this

B.C I would like to add that after the mods were made we did try the Make512k
under 1.2 but had the same problem. We are currently using 1.1 until the

Barry, I have experimented with making a C: dir in ram during the
startupsequence and had the same results as you…doing Addmem first causes a
crash, but it seems this is only the case if you go to the CLI via Workbench. I
seldom use Workbench, so this is not a real hindrance to me. If you use/need
WB, adding the additional memory after copying/assigning the C: dir seems to be
the way to go right now, otherwise just eliminate the loadwb command from the
startup-sequence. Also, the name of the man in California who has the
additional hardware fix is Joe Frazier. For 25.00 he will provide a small
circuit and instructions on it's installation. I have not spoken to him yet,
but should do so in a day or so. Should you prefer to contact him directly, his
tele. is (714) 595-5284, and he will accept calls on his fix between 5:45 and
8:15 Pacific Standard Time ONLY. I will continue to look into both matters, and
will forward all I find out ASAP, and would appreciate your doing the same.
