Ten teenagers from the Soviet Union, representing the Soviet "Young Cosmonauts" youth group, are touring the United States as guests of their US counterparts, the "Young Astronauts" and they'll be online on Wed, Dec 17, at 10 PM EST in the Space Education Forum (GO SpaceEd). Co-hosting the Young Cosmonauts during segments of their US visit are finalists from the NASA Teacher In Space Program, who have asked me to relay a special appeal to all CompuServe members to consider "adopting a classroom" for this conference. The Young Cosmonauts range in age from 13 to 18 and it would be wonderful if there could be as many students their own age logged in as possible. Teachers are encouraged to have their classes "terminal-pool" (online equivalent of car-pooling <grin>) to have as many students participate as possible, and parents are asked to have their children join in also. It would be terrific if you could invite some neighborhood children to sit in as well. This really is an unusual opportunity for each of us to make a some person-to-person gestures of peaceful goodwill toward these Russian youngsters, and to demonstrate the continental-scale communications facilities we enjoy so much. The Soviet kids are very excited about being here and I hope you'll help me make them feel welcome.
