#A-Time
9 messages in this thread
The documentation for A-Time says that the printer should be on before
turning on the system (A-Time fits on the parallel port). Does anybody
know why this is so? The docs imply that the clock won't be read correctly
if the printer isn't on, but fortunately I haven't found that to be true.

George,
It is true IF you have pin#25 of the db25 parallel connector hooked up
to the INIT* line on the printer. Otherwise, it doesn't matter.
Don
That's good to know, thanks Don!

George, My A-Time works (or fails) in exactly the same manner: if my printer
is on when I boot, then I get a warning that A-Time is not set or something to
that effect. I read-rtc from my startup-sequence and this is when the problem
occurs. I always make sure my printer (IBM PC Gaphics Printer with homemade
cable) is off before booting. I'll check my cable to confirm the previous reply
(from?) which said something about the init pin being connected.

Bill,
Cut off pin #25 of the printer cable db25 end (the one that attaches to
the Amiga) and you'll have no more problems with A-Time.
Don
Don, Thanks for the printer cable tip. I'll give it a try. Bill C-B
Thanks Bill. Don Curtis was right about the pin.
George
How about the oki-20/amiga cable?
Thanks, Ron
Sounds like you guys could use the TIC. Plugs into the second joystick port
which makes use independent of any printer problems. The accompanying software
also allows you to change the time by moving the hands of the clock with your
mouse. A screen saver utility is also included. The TIC's hardware and
software was designed by Jude Katsch, a former Amiga hardware engineer. He was
the engineer who designed all of the hardware hacks given out at the Amiga
developers conference. We currently have 500 TICs built and tested in house.
Shipment should begin this week once the display casing arrives. Retail price
is $59.95. Group purchase discounts are available, but must be in quantities
of 10 and must all be sent to the same address.
