Bela: I've been seeing some items in the SIG about some concerns about the
Sidecar. Can you shed some light on it? I was told by a dealer that the
Sidecar has a 20 MB hard disk and 256K memory for the IBM side. I thought I
saw something about it not being expandable.
What's the story?
Also I understand that it is available in some places in the German version
that has an external power supply. That is selling for $900. The Canadian
version is at $1100 US dollars, and the US version is caught in a problem with
the FCC over the internal power supply and RF. Is this true??

You are listening to the wrong rumor mill, I think. "told by a dealer that the
Sidecar has a 20MB hard disk" — it most definitely does not come with a hard
disk. "not … expandable" — the SideCar has 3 unused full-size IBM PC slots.
You can use those to expand it with any peripheral a standard IBM PC will take
— for instance, a 20MB hard card (which is probably where your dealer got his
misinformation), a Bernoulli Box, network equipment, internal modems, whatever.
All versions of the SideCar are of German design; I don't believe that there
are two versions, with internal vs. external power supply. That sounds like
pure misinformation. As far as the FCC goes, I've been told that SideCar's
passed all the tests, but they don't have the paper yet. Maybe, maybe not.
There's no point in worrying and believing rumors, when the thing's either
going to ship within weeks, or the rumors will start getting a lot more
factual… – Bela
