I have just posted the source, documentation, and executable files for "proff" to the DL's. "Proff" is a text formatting processor that is based on the FORMAT utility described in "Software Tools" by Kernighan and Plauger. This implementation was written by Ozan S. Yigit of the Dept. of Computer Science at York University, and was distributed by the author on USENET in February, 1986. "Proff" is much like the VM/CMS formatting program SCRIPT, or the UNIX(tm) nroff/troff/etc. programs. It uses imbedded commands to control the output's format. It's capabilities are fairly comprehensive, and include functions for: justification, text and page formatting, headers/footers, table of contents generation, include files, user written macros, variable substitution, registers, and more. The documentation is quite good as a reference document and includes several exapmles. The C code is very vanilla, and VERY litle work was needed to get it up on Amy. Of course that means that none of Amy's unique capabilities are exploited in this implementation; looks like a reasonable base for further development work though. You'll find the README, User's Guide source, and EXEcutable files in DL1 as files PROFF.TXT, PROFF.PRF, and PROFF.EXE respectively. The sources (including README and proff.prf) are available in DL9 as the squeezed library file PROFF.LQR. This is my 1st attempt at uploading to the DL's here, and I hope I got everything right … if not, I'm sure our illustrious Wizop, George will let me know before he merges the files. One note of caution … you MUST strip the CR's off of PROFF.PRF before using it as input to PROFF.
