Now that you probably have downloaded that huge EGAD.ARC file, you might want to know a little about how to use it. I'm posting this here as it relates to programming. First, to start EGAD, type: egad 3 if you want 3 bit-planes, or egad 4 for 4 bitplanes, from the CLI window. As yet, EGAD cannot be started from the Workbench, but that probably won't be for long. If you want the normal 2 bitplanes, then type: EGAD with NO number after it. An empty window should come up. Next you MUST set the flags first BEFORE you draw them. Naturally, you want to specify "Gadget type", so you first pull down the "Gadget type" and select BOOLEAN, PROP, or STRING gadget. Next, decide how you want your program to respond when the Gadget is selected by selecting one or more of the "Activation" flags in the "Activation" menu. For instance, if you want a proportional gadget, and you want your program to know when the gadget is first selected, you choose GADGIMMEDIATE, and if you want something to happen as the gadget is being moved, you also select FOLLOWMOUSE flag. All this is explained in the Intuition manual. If you selected a PROP gadget, you MUST decide if you want the AUTOKNOB, or FREEVERT or FREEHORIZ or both, so you choose the appropriate flags in the "propinfo flags" menu. Now, using the RIGHT mouse button, move the pointer to approximatly where you want the UPPER LEFT portion of the gadget to go, then press the RIGHT button, and hold it down, dragging a rectangle out to the appropriate size and shape of the gadget desired. As soon as you let go, a requester box comes up asking you to name the gadget. REMEMBER!! Always go from upper left to lower right. If you attempt to make the gadget too small, a residual rectangle will remain on the screen. If the requester doesn't come up, it means you made it too small. The smallest you can make the gadget is 8 pixels in the X direction and 6 in the Y direction. At least this will get you started. As I get the first reports from people using it, I'll be posting more tips. Thanx …. Crunch
