Tom – I'm curious about the RAM expansion capability of the ST. If memory serves, Jez San mentioned a limitation in the OS; I seem to recall that TOS won't recognize memory beyond 1 meg. Do you have hard data on the ST's limits? Also, not to beat this thing to death, the lowest level operating systems in the Amiga were developed over a long period, and provide capabilities far beyond the ST's, which was a hurry-up affair. For what it's worth, I'll probably wind up getting an ST to use as a debugging terminal for my Amiga, and I do think it's an attractive way for folks to get into 68XXX computing. It's just not the open-ended machine the Amiga is. For the forseeable future, (I think that's 2 or 3 years in the computer business!) the flexible nature of the Amiga will allow its owners to keep up with changing technology. Tramiel can't afford to build that into the ST and still charge rock-bottom prices. Furthermore, Tramiel has a NASTY habit of introducing totally incompatible successors, like the +4, and the C-16. One more point: those low-priced peripherals for the ST can also be plugged into the Amiga. – Jim
