I've had a total of two disks "crap out" in the manner of which you speak. The
first was not important, but the second contained programs I had been working
on for several weeks. And that pissed me off to the point where I started
writing a program to recover just about everything that is still good on such a
disk. Its almost finished; I'll be testing it this week, then I'll upload it
here. So don't reformat your crashed disks yet. I personally haven't had it
happen on any of my Verbatim/DataLife DS/DD disks, but only on my "free from
CBM" "DS/DS" disks.
