##96356 Df2:
2 messages in this thread
You concur with the guys at Michigan Software; I went ahead and ordered their
external PS for df2: (that WAS my original plan, anyway). They indicate that
their power supply COULD supply both df0: and df1:, but they couldn't see a
reason to do so. Did you just give me a reason? Let me ask that another way:
If I use an external power supply for df2: should I still look into external
power for the SLOTS?
THANK YOU for your usual prompt reply!! –Bob
Bob,
Basically, the A1000 is capable of powering all the "normal" peripherals,
including an external drive. On top of this, there is a certain amount of
"overhead" built in to the power supply. I forget exacty how much, but could
dig out the specs. Thing is, you need to calculate the amount that you require,
and see if it comes in under the rated power. The guys at Michigan software
generally know their stuff, so I would say that you are probably ok with a
power supply for the second drive only.
That having been said, I would also add that I would probably arrange for the
Michigan supply to power at least both external drives. Reasoning is that it is
easy to do, the power is available, and it would take some load off the Amiga
supply… better safe and all that.
