Is anybody running their Amiga with a Sony Multiscan. If it works well please
give a pin-out. One person said that he couldn't get the Sony to work properly
until he put the composite sync to green or something like that. Thanks for
any help. I'm especially interested in flat screen monitors like Sony because
they have less distortion at the edges of the screen.
Im presently using the sony 1302 with a 2000 [DI had the cable made up by
Redmond Cable and it works fine. As I mentioned earlier in a previous message
the way I like to use the monitr or is by compressing the vertical and
horizontal sizes with the controls in the back. With the reported 0.24 dot
pitch and the compressed screen working with this monitor is a joy I relish
more every day. If you have any info on that deinterlace board please leave a

Steve, how much do you compress the images? I assume you showing a substantial
border around the edges.
MicroWay will have a deinterlacer video board for the A2000 in first quarter of
88'. Retail price is around $595. But I just read a rumor from the new Info
Mag that Commodore is getting close to modifying the Denise chip to support 640
x 400 noninterlace. If that's true, we won't need the deinterlacer board. I
sent away for a Sony 1302 cable from Redmond Cable. I decided to get the Sony
because it has less distortion because of its flat screen. The NEC and
Mitsubishi both pin cushion quite a bit on the vertical outside edges of the

Unless the horizontal scan rate goes up, you've just traded one form of
'flicker' for another with Denise doing 640×400 non-interlaced. And if the
horizontal scan rate DOES go up, there isn't enough memory bandwidth to handle
it. There just ISN'T any extra memory bandwidth now at 15750 Hz horizontal
scan rate.
So it sounds like your saying the the MicroWay flickerFIXER in the video slot
of the Amiga 2000 is still the best way to go? And the Denise chip handling
640 x 400 non-interlace is probably a ridiculous rumor?
640×400 with 2 bit planes (4 colors, like the workbench) would require the
_same_ memory bandwidth as 640×400 with 4 bitplanes, interlaced. Not more than
the Amiga has at all. Now, 4 bit planes, at 640×400 and so on, would wring out
the sponge, so to speak, but you could certainly have a mode like that. It's
very similar to the curretn situation where you can only have 4 bitplanes of
640 pixel stuff… you can have 6, if you'll accept 320 horizontal. One rather
unfortunate "feature" of using memory in this manner is that the bit-screen
mapping could get a little strange without a line buffer in there somewhere…

Since I don't have any flicker problem, I don't feel any NEED to FIX it. I
haven't heard anything about the "MicroWay flickerFIXER", I really can't
comment. IMHO the 'solution' if one is needed is a longer persistance phosphor
on the monitor. The 2080 is "supposed" to be out in January, that will be
interesting to look at (pun intended).
