#Structured Graphics
9 messages in this thread
Features that would be ideal, would be a DPaint (or Images!) style user int
(interface) that allows the user to draw exactly like he/she would in a
paint package, yet have the images in a postscript (structured graphic?)
format. The main problem with Draw Plus (be it a great CAD program) is
really that it is too concerned with CAD, to be a true graphics editor.
Professional Page can read DPlus files directly, so this is not a problem,
but we need a REAL paint-style structured graphics editor.
If you are familiar with 'Adobe Illustrator', that type of product is
exactly what I mean! thanks for listening!! Keep up the excellent work
(waiting ever so impatiently for VideoTitler…I want it!!)
In order for a package to create structured drawings it won't support
bitmaps. Adobe Illustrator allows for a bitmap "backdrop" that can be
traced over. I am interested in persuing this area of drawing in more
detail. Is it a matter of having an icon bar and a object-action style
interface? (something else I am considering). Thanks.
I am afraid that I dont understand what you mean. Are you saying that a
program that has a graphic representation of whats on the screen, cannot be
represented in a structured graphic? Hmm..
What I am talking about, to try and be clearer, is very much what you said.
an icon bar with objects to click on, and object oriented drawing tools.
However, the final product would be a structured graphic, exactly the same
way that DrawPlus graphics are, with Postscript support. This sort of thing
will come out for the Amiga eventually, it has to if its going to contend
in desktop publishing. I agree with the present resolutions, and the
present monitor, DTP isnt as nice as on a Mac or a PC with EGA, but we all
know that Commodore is just a few short steps away from making that
limitation disappear. With this in mind, who will be the lucky company to
make a good Postscript/structured graphics illustration package?
The formula is easy! Use the same types of tools found in DPaint II (I am
sure even Aegis won't argue the success of that product) and make it
something that everyone into DTP on the Amiga will want…because it
supports Postscript.
I am unclear of what you mean about the bitmaps…can you be a bit more
specific on what appears to be a limitation?
This is what I ment. Take Draw Plus and modify it's interface and add more
style tools. My comments about bitmaps can be stated in a clearer fashion.
You can't load paintings into a structured drawing system, you could create
a 2 layer system (like VideoTitler and SuperPaint(Mac)). But structured
graphics are NOT bitmaps. I do like the idea of a object-action version of
a structured drawing system. This is a needed product.
Great! Glad we agree. Hope to see something 'real soon now' with the Aegis
stamp on it, that comes close to what is needed in this area!
