are the advantages/disadvantages to changing the RAM location to A000, etc. The manual states that in most cases you do not need to change the default location except if using a seperate video controller, but are there any other reasons? Mark J. Morales 72307,2503

Yes…the Shared Utilities (JLink, ARead, AWrite, etc.) don't understand it when Janus is moved from E000. The BridgeBoard WILL work just fine thou. I had to move Janus off E000 temporairly to get an expansion board to configure properly. The shared utilities were the only thing I found that didn't work right. OH…I did find that moving it to A000 caused it to ignore my expansion board (which had it's ROM addressed at C800) as if once it's hit the Janus code…it quits looking for additional ROM tags above Janus' address location. This is a guess. When I moved Janus to D000 then my expansion card ROM was recognized and it booted. I then moved the paging area of the expansion card off E000, re-set Janus back to E000 and everthing has worked perfectly since then.

Thanks for you observations on the effects of moving around the ram location. Experimenting here yielded similar results. In rereading my original message, I noticed part was chopped off, so I'll ask againdo you or (or anyone else out there) know the purpose of connector J&, located in the top center of the board? Mark

That's J2..it's the connector for a speaker. I've got mine hooked up and it works fine.

Sure, I know about the speaker connector J2, but the one I'm speaking of is J7, which is an 8 position header connector, with 7 pins actually connected (if I remember correctly pin # 6 is missing). If anyone from CA is reading this, perhaps you can shed some light on the subject?

That's very interesting….you say this connector (J7) is also located near the upper middle of the board? My BridgeCard has no such connector and looking at photographs in the manual, and in a magazine…I also see no such set of header connectors. The only connectors on the BridgeBoard that I know of are the Default color select headers (J1–6 pins, 2 jumpers), Speaker connector (J2–2 pins), Internal Floppy connector (J3—34 pins) and External floppy connector (db23-23 pins). Could you describe the exact location, perhaps by reference to some other parts on the board?
