Can anyone tell me if the Antic object disks that are in Sculpt format can be read by the Modeler 3D "load sculpt object" command. I dont have sculpt 3D but do use Modeler/VideoScape 3D. Yes, I know about Interchange. But I consider it a very costly option when I could buy 3 Antic object disks for the price of Interchange and its modules.

Why don't you just buy the Videoscape format object disks? Interchange comes with a videoscape and sculpt-3d conversion modules. At $49.95 (and cheaper if you mail order it), how is that a "very costly"? It's quite a bargain if you own several 3D programs and you want to mix and match.

My local Amiga dealer only has the Microbot disk in VideoScape format, all the others are in Sculpt format. I consider Interchange very costly for file conversion program, since I am writing my own VideoScape to Silver converter. I am writing my own because I dont think its worth $60 to buy Interchange.

Let's see, you paid at least $70 for Modeler, and $150 for VideoScape, and $20 a piece for three Antic disks, for a total of about $300 for Amiga video products, and you can get InterChange for about $30. Perhaps you didn't know that the Sculpt and VideoScape modules are included for that price – only the Forms in Flight and Turbo Silver modules are sold separately, at $19.95 list, cheaper at a dealer or mail order. Not to chew you out in public for sliming my products and our liberal pricing, but the good news is that the Antic disks are available in both Sculpt and VideoScape formats. So you can use *either* with Modeler.

Please dont take it personally, I'm not 'sliming' you products. All I was saying was that Interchange was not personally on my shopping list. I know I could get it cheaper from mail order, but taking the prices I saw in my local shop today, to convert from VideoScape to Silver would cost me $39 + $15. All I'm saying is that it is going to be cheaper for me to write my own converter. BTW, I did buy one of your products today.. The Objects Disk #1. Now at $18 that is EXECELLENT value. I did try importing the Sculpt 3D objects that are on that disk into Modeler 3D. It works, but as the M3D manual says, "you may have to flip some of the Polygons". They are not kidding, the alphabet objects all seem to get around half of the polygons facing the wrong way for VideoScape/M3D. Oh well. Again, I am sorry if my message in any way gave the impression that I was slagging Interchange. It was not meant that way … :-).

So how much did you pay for Modeler and VideoScape? What other 3D products are you using? As for flipping polygons, I think you'll find that the objects on the Antic disks will load into Modeler with the proper orientation. As for the objects on the Syndesis object disk, yes, they have random orientation. If you are careful, you can "orient" triangles in Sculpt. It depends on the order you create and select points before hitting the triangle gadget.

I did not have to pay for Modeler 3D/VideoScape at all!. The company bought them for me!. However, now the project they were bought for has been done they dont feel like buying me any more. I also use Turbo Silver. The polygon problem with Sculpt to V3D does not bother me too much as the final destination will be Turbo Silver which does not care. I am going to see if I can knock up a quick program to sort most of the simple cases out.
