Funny you should ask that today! I've been looking for those docs fo awhile, and just today found them. OK, Acording to what I see here, the drive has transparent defect mapping, which means there should be sectors reserved for mapping already. The Quantum drive are a bit different from most drives in that they use a recording method called Zoned Recording. What this basicly means is that there are more sectors per track on the outer tracks than on the inner. The data I have shows both the Q240S and the Q280S drives. Drive Q240S Q280S Number of heads 3 6 Number of zones 2 2 Outer Zone Cylinders 590 590 Sectors/track 35 35 Inner Zone Cylinders 244 244 Sectors/track 28 28 Number of sectors 82,029 164,058 Hmmm, looking at the number above, it seems that the number of sectors is less than what the calculations using the sectors/track, cylinders, and number of heads would suggest. Doing a few quick calculations would indicate that for your drive, you should use 6 heads, 37 sectors/track, and 739 cylinders. That would give you a total of 83.9M of space. I have other data here, so if you have any other specific questions, I'll try to find the answers. -Dean
