I just finished purchasing both Adobe 88 and Quarkxpress and I am having a
problem getting the EPS format to be recognozied by Qxpress. Also I am
missing the Pantone color file for uncoated stock paper. This might seem
as a dumb question, however I would really appreciate your help before I
send in the reg. cards on both of these programs. One more thought is
what is adobe's policy with up grading in the case of the first adobe
Illustrator, I am wondering if they are planning on Illustrator 89 by next
year. Any thoughts would help me from making a mistake in registrating in
a costly software incapatible purchase and costly upgrades. Too bad the
sales people don't know the answers to these questions.
Uncoated Pantone may never be shipped because Pantone hasn't done it for
Adobe. Illustrator '88 files should be no sweat with Xpress, we use them
all the time. Tell me more… what have you tried?
I bought Illustrator to produce my Company Logo on my documents etc. I used
the Auto Trace feature and worked on improving it. I then saved it as an
Illustrator EPS format so that I would bring it into Xpress. However, when I
choose "Get Picture" the Documents from Illustrator do not show up in the
dialog box in Xpress.
I am very new to both of these programs. I have used Illustrator before
(not very easy), and after using 88 I was sold. In the future I would like
to produce things in color; that is why I am concerned about the Pantone
Uncoated file described in Page 9 of the "Color Guide". I bought the
higher end products so that I may grow into them. I am under the
immpression that you work with both of these programs quite a bit. I hope
that I made the right decision based on info. I've read because the sales
people really don't know about higher end products.

You are not "missing" the Pantone color file for uncoated paper,
the mentioning of the uncoated file was an error in the manual.
This one file should be sufficient and your printer can assist
you with any concerns you have WRT color output, paper stock,
weight, etc, etc.
As far as upgrading, I don't know when the "next" Illustrator product
will be out, but I can tell you how the last upgrade was handled.
All registered users could purchase the upgrade for $100 and if the
program had been purchased after a specified date, the upgrade was
free (with proof of purchase).
