#Choosing a genlock

I'd appreciate any suggestions on selecting a genlock that meets as many as
possible of the following criteria:
…It must work on a 500. I'd prefer that it also work on a 3000.
…It will be used for the following 3 purposes:
1) to provide a simple color composite video out, so I can view the Amiga's
output on my projection TV/monitor
2) to permit me to send computer generated images out to videotape (with no
concurrent video in)
3) to permit me to overlay computer graphics on top of a live (camera) or
taped (VCR) video input, and send that combined image either to a monitor
or to another VCR.
…Ideally, I don't want to have to disconnect my RGB cable (to the 1084s)
every time I use it. Since the genlock will attach to the RGB out of the
Amiga, what I need to do this is for the genlock to provide not only
composite out, but also to duplicate the RGB port into which it is plugged,
so I can still leave the RGB monitor connected.

Scott, I read in I believe an Amazing Computing (although it might have
been AmigaWorld) about how Amiga output signals are not the same from model
to model, despite Commodore's claims. So you'll get better results by
buying one "tuned" for the machine. Of course, I doubt there is anything
tuned for the 3000 yet.

Scott, I am using an Omnigen711 with my A3000 with excellant results. It
meets all of your criterion including loop-through for the RGB monitor. It
will work with stable (camera video) or unstable (VCR video), is the best
NTSC encoder for the Amiga I've seen, and also has Y/C ins and outs.
Infact, the Y/C out looks as good as the standard Amiga RGB display on a
highres Y/C monitor. It also works just fine with the 500 an 1000. It is
really a broadcast-type unit an may be overkill for home use (at $2000),
but it is the best I've seen if you want to be able to tweak your Amiga
video to broadcast specs.

I'm leaning towards a SuperGen, which I _think_ will do all the things I
listed. If it wasn't so much more, I'd go with your recommendation, not
just for the (presumed) higher image quality, but for the Y/C capability.
But I don't really need that right now (in fact, I don't really _need_
anything, and am trying to justify even spending the money for a
SuperGen!). ===Scott
