I think I had enough with Mr Lippert and his company. I think
the sysops should jump in and put him in his place.
All I've been hearing these past few days is how wonderfull his company is and
how bad everybody else is (at least 3 other companies).
First of all I must say that this is not an attack to Cltd or its boss.
But I just get upset when the sysops used to say that NO ADVERTISEMENT
with prices and so on will be tolorated in CIS. Well I heard enough.
If you want a press announcement do just that, but don't go around
criticizing other companies when these other companies are not
represented. Also your remarks about other products plus the comment to
some users "why don't you tell them about our products and how satisfied
you are" has taken your authority out of limits.
I think the users should know that you have already folded one company
and left plenty of users out in the cold. I guess its like, 'the profits
stop might as well start a new company so that we want have to grand our
life warranty of our products'. Then you were saying that you don't
announce products that you will not deliver. Whatever happened to the
C-64 digitizer, TV tuner printers and so on. Promising and not delivering was
one of your favorate games in the C-64.
I own a Techni-soft 4Mbyte board which I just got a week ago and I must say
that I am impressed. I bought mine at about $700. It operates perfectly.
To do the same with your board I would need to spend close to $2000.
Maybe T-S had some early problems but I can say to you and all users that
the problems are fixed and they are now selling the best board in the
market. The company is a small one (remember when you started Ed!) but they
are trying very hard to get everything organized.
Why is it that you talk about their board like that. Are you afraid of
competition (I think it was competition that shut Cardco down and made
the C-64 a success). So keep your mouth shut as far as other companies are
concern and devote your time in making your products PRESENTIBLE!!!

Where did you buy your T-S board? I have a 2MB board from them, which
I purchased with a group here on CIS. If you dealt with the company directly,
tell me about your experience with them. BTW, I guess you're not connected
with any of the (maligned?) companies your message concerned? Thanks

I'll admit to being one of Ed Lippert's biggest fans! He does make new product
announcements and he quickly answers questions put to him about both his and
other products. He is one of a handful of vendors who put out high quality
products at reasonable prices, and he backs up those products. I've been
waiting for a few months for TS to ship me a single micro-floppy, containing a
program supposedly finished months ago. Their boards quickly developed a bad
reputation herethe group buyers waited a long time and often got defective
boards. Tecmar sold a very high priced low quality product (look at them now0
Microforge had a lot of problems (I just heard they've bit the dust) one
company sells ram boards with out pass-thru's, another sells a clock for the
parallel port that requires your printer to be turned on when you boot, and so
on. In contrast, I've heard of very few problems with the equipment Ed sells
(and ships), and he has cooperated with other vendors to help get us better
products. I think that Ed has earned the attention he gets here! Ron Troy

Really! If you are going to flame at another company, you should at least
identify yourself (for those who don't know) as the producer of a competing
hardware product to that of the company you are making remarks about! <flame

If you think is in your best interest for companies to go under then I
don't really think you are here for the best of the Amiga comunity.
Reading from your comments on how you've been criticizing Commodore
for their Sisdecar and transformer all I can say is this: You wanted them
to do more when they where loosing money. How would you feel if now
there was NO Amiga. You may say, yes but now there are making money.
Well, on Feb 18th as I've read from someone we'll all know on what and if
they spend their profits correctly. Give constructive criticism and not
ONLY!! complains. (Bill is going to kill me when he sees the charges. Sorry
no more replies, I would read though your and everyones comments. phewww!!)

Well, for anyone who reads my replies – I do believe that CBM is beginning to
listen to us, and I do want them to do well. I do think that firms with poor
products and high prices don't deserve us, while firms with good products and
reasonable prices do. EA, Aegis, C-Ltd, MSS and others are good vendors with
good products at fair prices who back up their products. For instance, I had a
major complaint about Analyze! 2, and it's already been answered – even though
I may be one of few people who had that problem. I had a problem using
external memory with transformer, so C-Ltd and Simile fixed that (although CBM
never released the fix).

Question John – what user group are you talking about? Our user group here in
Tucson (by the way, not "Tuscon") is not as large as you state; we have about
70-80 members and about 35 at the meetings. At last Saturday's meeting, I did
mention the PAL chip problem, though I had not yet read Ed Lippert's messages –
Dave Nipper told me about his experiences.
Please clarify this, as you have got me quite curious. Are you talking about a
Phoenix user group? Or do you belong to a different, 135-member Tucson group
of which I am unaware (I HOPE I'm not that unaware!)?

Regarding the main subject of your message… my impression of Ed Lippert's
comments was mostly favorable. Given the fact that there ARE problems with
certain combinations of hardware add-ons, it is very good to know what the fix
is. At $20 per set, I don't think that he is gouging anyone just for a quick
buck. And he wasn't attacking _everyone_ else – he had favorable things to say
about Microbotics. Yes, he posibly did stretch things a bit regarding
Techni-Soft, but I've seen stronger things said by the Sysops themselves – and
all opinions are subject to public challenge (as you have done). I hope he
tries to answer your criticisms.
Personally, I think the "Talk to the Trade" section is extremely interesting,
and I wish more companies would participate. Then they would really keep one
another honest!
