#POWERMONGER!
10 messages in this thread
All,
Just wanted to confirm that it's all true, every word of it… POWERMONGER
is here and it's FABULOUS! Definitely different from POPULOUS and still
quite playable despite an amazing enrichment of the simulated gameworld.
Take a look!

Steve, do you know if POWERMONGER will run on an A3000? Does it say
anything on the box about compatability with the 3000? Thanks… a number
of us here, as you likely know, are interested in whether game publishers
will start supporting the A3000. After all, nearly all new Mac games/sims
are MacII-compatible and many will take advantage of the extra speed and
color. So, is the A3000 being recognized or ignored by Amiga game/sim
programers? Thanks…
Gale,
Yep! It would be dumb _not_ to have tested out the game on the A3000, and
the box indicates that it will work with same. I haven't checked it out
myself yet, but I'm sure they wouldn't advertise it as having the support
if they hadn't tested it. The major US EA tester mentioned to me that he'd
done quite alot of work preparing this one. It's _not_ hard-disk
installable though, and makes use of only DF0: — I guess this is just the
fate of games with an European origin until HDs become more prevalent over
there.
My clear sense is that every major company releasing new games for the
Amiga is doing everything they can to insure A3000 support. Many of the
indies are doing so as well. Fear not. 🙂

Whew!
Thats good to know, I was MAD when I fould out that Populous would NOT run
on my A3000 (I run it on the IBM side of my computer with VGA, it's REAL
close to the Amiga version when running in VGA mode, but the sound is the
pits!

Doesn't run on an A3000? I've seen Populous running on an A3000… Project
D has a program included with it that de-protects Populous, allowing it
both to be installed on a Hard Disk, and to be played on an A3000.

Excuse me!
I tried to get populous to run on my A3000 back in Sept. and it would not
load a and that included using project d. I called up EA and THEY said
that it would not run on the A3000 at this time, it was not due to any copy
protection but rather a problem with the speed. I can only assume, that
they have (as they s said they would do) fixed the problem. I will get a
new copy now, and give it a try.
Tim
Um… They're kind of right. Populous will play on an A3000, but at a
MUCH faster rate. This makes it a much more challenging game, especially
at the higher levels. (Heck, even the lowest levels become a challenge!)
But it *is* fun to play at that speed, especially when playing against a
human opponent. (At the Amiga Developers Conference last June I spent some
time playing Populous on an A3000, both against a human player and the
computer. Lots of fun.)
You don't need a new copy. You *might* need a newer version of Project
D. You use a program called PopDecoder on the Project D disk, which first
showed up on the July 90 update.

Steve,
Just thought I'd mention, there's a little slider in POWERMONGER that
allows one to set gamespeed to match different CPU rates. So it doesn't
have the problem (if one thinks of it as such) of excessive speed that
POPULOUS does on the faster machines.

Hmmm, that must be it then, when I tried to boot populous, in eather 2.0 or
1.3.2, the demo would run just fine, but then I tried to load the actual
game it just locked up.
I will get an updated version of Project D, mine is alot older then July 90
Thanks
Tim
Thanks for the notice…i got one in the mail from EA today….
What are the system requirements for POwerMonger? (and im sure somone's
covered it…)
But What is the game about/like?
Thanks,
